"...a color rare even among kings, and greatly sought after; for purple was constantly sold for its weight in silver."

Thus wrote the 4th century BC historian Theopompus regarding the famous pigment produced at Tyre in Phoenicia. Because it was time and labor intensive to create, Tyrian purple dye became a status symbol for ancient elites, representing power, prestige, and wealth as early as the 15th century BC.

Our design is inspired by garments worn by Mycenaean royalty during the Late Bronze Age. It features a rich purple background accented by decorative gold appliques, which were originally sewn on. This decoration takes the form of alternating pendants of stylized lily blossoms and semicircles based on the famous Dendra necklace dating from the 15th-14th centuries BC.
